Audience: High-Profile Individuals · Risk level: CRITICAL
Blindfy Intelligence Unit · Technical review by Blindfy
Scenario
An executive receives an anonymous email with a screenshot of an intimate call from weeks earlier, demanding Bitcoin under threat of sending the material to his wife, board and clients.
How the scam works
Attackers orchestrate an approach on apps or networks, steer the interaction into recorded video and use the material for recurring extortion, escalating with each payment.
Common mistake
Paying the first installment believing it ends the case — statistically, it only starts the cycle.
Impact
Recurring extortion, eventual leaks even after payment, severe family and professional damage and internal compliance proceedings.
What works
Not paying, technical evidence preservation, legal and emotional support and containment coordinated with company governance.
Protection checklist
- Do not respond to or pay the extortionist
- Preserve evidence with chain of custody
- Engage digital crisis specialists
- Inform internal compliance if applicable
- Seek immediate psychological support
- File a police report with adequate confidentiality
- Monitor preventively for leaks
