Scenario
The executive notices the battery draining too fast, the device heating up at rest and mobile data usage above normal. He suspects an "aging phone". A technical audit reveals stalkerware installed for months — capturing microphone, messages, location and screenshots. The access came from a simple moment: someone with physical possession of the device for two minutes.
How the scam works
Stalkerware is a malware category sold as "parental monitoring" or "employee control", installed physically or via social engineering. It runs hidden, without an icon, and continuously exfiltrates data to the operator's panel. Kaspersky ranks Brazil second worldwide in victims — and executives are prime targets of corporate espionage.
Common mistake
Thinking a password-locked phone is safe. Stalkerware requires brief physical access or a single click on a malicious link — and from there it persists for months.
Impact
Leaks of commercial strategy, ongoing M&A, communications with lawyers (breach of privilege), the executive's real-time location (physical risk) and audio capture in closed meetings. In some cases the operator is a spouse, former partner or direct competitor.
